About Me

Hi, I’m Hazel – proofreader, copy editor, typo-hunter, and the human behind Whichword.

My proofreading journey started in 2005 during a trip to the USA, when I picked up a restaurant menu and couldn’t help correcting all the spelling errors before even ordering a drink. That little moment planted the seed – and it turns out, it was a sign of things to come.

By 2010, I was working in the oil and gas industry, where I found myself editing and proofing client reports. That’s when it clicked: not only was I good at this, I actually loved it. So, I started offering my skills beyond the office – proofreading a friend’s thesis (distinction achieved!), and polishing up my stepfather’s novels (now all published!).

From there, I built a small freelance base, realised this was the work I was meant to do – and just like that, Whichword was born in 2020.

In 2022, I completed a BA in English, with a focus on both literature and linguistics. That background means I bring not just a sharp eye, but a deep understanding of how language works – whether I’m editing fiction, academic work, business content, or anything in between.

When I take on a project, I give it my full attention. I care about getting it right – not just technically, but in your tone too. I genuinely love helping people say what they mean, clearly and confidently.

And yes – I do consider proofreading my superpower. Typos, inconsistencies, awkward phrasing… I’ll find them. And I’ll fix them.

But there’s more to it than that – sometimes it’s less about tidying up and more about building from scratch… while still in your voice.

That’s where my copywriting services come in. If you’re staring at a blank page (or a blinking cursor) and just don’t know what to say, I can help craft the words for you. From website content and social media captions to bios, blurbs, and brand copy – I write content that sounds like you, only more polished and purposeful.
